I Still Believe In Love Rabbit Hole (10/22/2022)

 I've done it again. I've went down another music related rabbit hole.

It started when I was skipping through some Youtube video titled "English Pop Songs Turned Into K-Pop (ft. WAY Too Many SM Songs)," and I heard this song called "Still Believe in Love" by some girl named Jennie Hyun. Apparently, this had been turned into the song ""How Great Is Your Love?" by SNSD (which is another name for Girls Generation, apparently).

I thought the song was super good, so I tried to find it on Youtube, but I could only find other peoples reuploads of the song, not the original anywhere. I thought that was weird, so I searched up Jennie Hyun, where I found this reddit post: https://www.reddit.com/r/korea/comments/pxpcr/girls_generation_singer_jenny_hyun_goes_on/

Basically, this singer by the name of Jenny Hyun went onto a racist rant on her twitter account, where she said some pretty bad things about black people following some comments that Floyd Mayweather made about Jeremy Lin, back in 2011. This was posted on some website called soompi.com, but it's not there anymore.

However, I went and looked at the members of Girls Generation, and there is no one named Jenny Hyun on that group. After looking at some comments on this reupload of the video, (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GnfgTUTZ0JM&ab_channel=PookLoveYoona)

turns out that the original song was just a demo by this girl named Jenny Hyun, and the demo was bought by SM entertainment in order to make into a song by Girls Generation (I'm pretty sure this is a thing that happens a lot in kpop, and potentially also the entire music industry a lot).

But this Jenny Hyun person is cancelled, so I don't really know if I can find any other info on her, which kind of sucks because I kind of want to hear other songs from her now. This song is really good, and I love the voice, but it's looking like you can only hear the demo version online now. The SNSD version is ok, too, but this English one is just better I feel.

Update: I looked at the SNSD song on Spotify, and it turns out that They actually titled it "How Great Is Your Love (Original Title : Still Believe In Love)," so they did give credit to the original song, which is actually pretty surprising and pretty cool.

Reflections on the Dark Tower series (spoilers) (1/11/2019)

I've finally finished the series. It's been a wild ride. From the surreal first book to the twist at the end of the final book, it's been quite the journey. And it feels extensive too. The series took me around a year to finish, and it feels like the books have lasted forever. The Dark Tower series acts as one long story split over the entire seven (technically 8, plus WTK). The characters also travel through expansive settings, going across worlds and dimensions, from a desert to a forest, across a radioactive wasteland, and ending finally at the Dark Tower. If you want to read this, be prepared for a long ride. The Dark Tower series can be seen as a sort of hub for all of Stephen King's other works. For example, one of King's first novels,  Salem's Lot , tells the story of a man named Callahan, a character who also appears in the Dark Tower series. Golden Boy (11/17/2022)

 Golden Boy is the worst manga I've ever read. While I wouldn't really want to recommend it in general, I think that reading at least some part of this could still be entertaining because of just how weird it is. And this manga is very, very weird. I personally did not love the anime, so I started reading the manga with no prior information hoping that it would get better. Instead, the manga only gets worse the more you read it. It reached a point where I was physically cringing during almost every chapter, and I had to take multiple breaks from reading because it was just too much. I think Golden Boy works best if you just show out of context screenshots to people. Some insane (and I mean insane as in I seriously think the author has some kind of mental illness) things happen in the manga, and those things are pretty funny if you just take them out of context.
